Middleton Plus Development Trust, thanks to funding from Northern Heartlands, has produced walking guides and an exhibition describing walks in Upper Teesdale as part of a project called “A Walk Through Time”. The guides cover a Middleton-in-Teesdale village walk, Bowlees Holwick circular walk, the Tees Railway Path, the King’s walk and the Leekworth circular walk. They are available via a dedicated website (walkmiddleton.info) and mobile devices as well as in printed form. The walks are designed to encourage visitors and local residents to enjoy and understand the heritage, environment and culture while walking in beautiful Upper Teesdale.
The walkmiddleton.info website includes easy to download descriptions and maps of the walks and the TIC App for mobile devices. It also includes a glimpse of times gone by through visitor information in guides from the past. Plans to mount public displays of the project work unfortunately had to be changed due to pandemic restrictions in 2020. The Tourist Information Centre is currently closed, however, a display showing the research and background information used to design the walking guides will be on show there at a future date.
